The people of Alcester are celebrating this week after winning a top accolade in the Britain in Bloom competition.
Organisers were presented with a prestigious gold award at a ceremony on Friday 1st at Birmingham Cathedral.
The town has also been chosen to represent the Heart of England in the national competition, which was last achieved 10 years ago.
Alcester in Bloom chairman Maggie Payne said: "I was a little apprehensive this time as we have won gold before and I thought they might not give it to us again. But all the hard work wasn't in vain and the effort was well worth it." She said thanks were due to Alcester residents for the wonderful welcome the judges were given in July. Mrs Payne added: "the church bells were ringing and the ladies choir singing when the judges arrived. After an initial walk in the hot sunshine to view various private gardens, the churchyard and the sensory garden in the town centre, the judges boarded the train made by Severn Lamb for a tour of the outlying areas, including the roman museum, fire station, police station and a visit to the local nature reserve, which received a certificate of merit.
"Everywhere we went, people were helpful and kind - I'm sure it made a difference."
Senior Heart of England judge Les Goodman said: "Every year it's not only those who enter Heart of England in Bloom which see their communities and environment improved, but also the visitors."
"That is why the true value of the competition is the community spirit and feeling of civic pride it creates"
