Heart of England District

A sensory garden is not just for the blind. It is for everyone and is designed to encourage people to use their 5 senses:

Sight - Hearing - Smell - Touch - Taste

The senses will be attracted in the garden in the following ways:

Sight - plenty of colours.

Hearing - rustling plants, running water and plants that attract birds and other wildlife.

Smell - plants that that have a strong perfume at different times of the day.

Touch - different ground textures and plants with various textures in their leaves and stems.

Taste - unfortunately it would be unwise to let visitors taste the plants even though there are culinary herbs.

The design is sympathetic to the age and structure of the church and incorporates traditional plants such as lily of the valley, orange blossom and honeysuckle to name just a few.
